Urujeni Martine Elected Vice Mayor in Charge of Socio-Economic Affairs in City of Kigali

Kigali 25 March 2022, Mrs. Urujeni Martine has been elected the Vice Mayor in charge of Socio-Economic Affairs in the City of Kigali. She pledged to work closely with the team of the city of Kigali in improving welfare of City dwellers, and ensuring social justice.

She is replacing Nadine Umutoni Gatsinzi who was appointed Director General of Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA).

During an election held on Friday, March 25, 2022 in Kigali at Petit Stade Remera, she got 298 votes, representing 77.6 percent of the total 384 votes from the electorate which consisted of councilors of the City of Kigali Council and the sectors making up the City.

Speaking to the media, Urujeni said “My priority is to work together with other members of the City Executive Committee to take care of the residents’ welfare with a citizen-centered leadership, and ensuring that citizens have a say in the services rendered to them,”

Local Government Minister, Jean Marie Vianney Gatabazi who witnessed the swearing in ceremony, said that he believes the new Vice Mayor in charge of Socio-Economic Affairs will effectively accomplish her responsibilities as she has the required experience based on the works she has done in line with social affairs through dispensing justice.

The Mayor of City of Kigali Pudence RUBINGISA congratulated Mrs. URUJENI and Welcomes her to in the City of Kigali family, he has also assured her to work closely in her new responsibilities so that the city's pledges can be achieved on time.

Urujeni was head of Access to Justice Services Department at Ministry of Justice.
